Why does the Internet appear to be Slow?

Everyone expects a simple answer. There is no simple answer.
Since the Internet is "Open and unregulated "  there is no quality control in place
and there are no regulations on data transmissions to force companies that supply
  internet services to guarantee speed.

Other factors or a combination of them may also be affecting internet speed:

  1. The site you are connecting to may be having problems.

  2. There may be a problem with a data line or piece of equipment that PLDT is suppling
    between PLTD and Ecafe.

  3. The PLDT connection from PLTD Manila to the world wide web may be maxed out.

  4. The Time of day. The Internet may just be busy or there may be a gridlock on the website
or chat service that you are trying to use. (to many people in manila using yahoo)

  5. On the Internet it is pretty much first-come, first-serve, so if you are the last to log on to a
website you will experience the slowest connections. (Email downloads and Chatting)

  6. Worms, viruses, and spam are also factors in the Internet’s speed performance.
These use up bandwidth and bog down servers like yahoo and google.

                                            More detail
 What is the Internet?

It is huge. It covers the world. It is complex. Things differ from one minute to the next. Parts of it may be (are) slow,
and parts may be faster.  When you say that the Internet is slow, it would be similar to saying that going to the
7 ELEVEN takes a long time. Which store? The store itself may be crowded and you may spend time in the store itself.
Similarly, on the internet, if the site you are going to is a popular site, that server may be extremely busy and slow to
respond.  Now, the 7 ELEVEN may have plenty of workers and things move quite fast there, but it may have a small
narrow entrance.  In terms of the Internet, this would be like the local connection to the Internet. Along the foot paths
you walk down to get from your house to the 7 ELEVEN, you may run into crowd of people.  This can slow you down.
Similarly, on the Internet, there may be many links to go to reach the remote site. There may be congestion on
any of these links for all kinds of reasons.

   For example,
if the 7 ELEVEN is near a stadium when a game is on, you may run into crowd of people from the game.
This has nothing to do with the 7 ELEVEN, but it will affect the time of your trip nevertheless. How close do you live to
the 7 ELEVEN? If you are far from it, it may or may not take longer. This depends on the speed you travel along the
foot paths. One thing, however, is that the more steps you must take, the greater the chance of running into congestion.
This is true on the Internet, but things are even more complicated.
